As a member you'll have access to our paddling and other outdoor related events, our Facebook group, our annual calendar of events along with club documents and the opportunity to share photos from our adventures. Join us today to experience the beauty of Michigan's waterways!
Canoeing and kayaking is the major focus of GLP but we also hold other outdoor events such as biking, hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing.
We currently have bi-monthly meetings and the club also tries to hold at least one announced paddling event each month during the warmer months of the year. The meetings are to discuss club business as well as being a social event. Often held at restaurants but also via Zoom meetings from time to time. Information to access the Zoom meetings is available on our members only Facebook page.
Our Calendar page shows Great Lakes Paddlers events. Current, future and past events can be found on the calendar page.
On our Facebook Group members can post to meet up with other members for informal paddles and much more.
To coordinate year-round canoeing and kayaking events in southeastern Michigan and surrounding areas for adults and families.
Promote paddle sports through safety, education, and lessons.
Encourage participation and input from membership involvement in local, state, and national conservation concerns.
Contribute resources to local charitable organizations.
Enjoy the opportunity to join other clubs from around the state for their events.
There are other ‘less announced’ paddles that are open to members and friends when the paddlers’ skill levels are known. Some travel / camping and paddling events are also sometimes planned by members.
Safety is important and a PFD is always required when attending a group paddle. While we often go out after a paddle to eat and enjoy a beverage there is no alcohol allowed while paddling.
Common local places for us to paddle include the Huron River in Delhi, Hudson Mills, and Kensington Metro Parks, as well as Island Lake State Park. Any waterway in southeastern Michigan is always a possibility.
Some trips involve camping at an established campground where we can explore other paddling opportunities. These are not back country trips but rather involve camping then heading out for day paddles.
Some areas we have done these types of paddles include the Au Sable River, Manistee River, Pine River, Flat River as well as Burt and Douglas lakes. However, other rivers are always an option.
